I have invited you all to join the Centro de Interpretación Isaac - TopicsExpress

I have invited you all to join the Centro de Interpretación Isaac Campantón page in order to support a temporarily virtual center that is waiting for a site in the old Jewish quarter of Zamora, Spain. According to historian Manuel F. Ladero Quesada, 20% of the population of the city of Zamora in 1492 was Jewish. There were 21 known Jewish villages in the province. The city had a Great Synagogue and the most important yeshiva in Spain during the last century before the Expulsion, whose head was Rabbi Isaac Campantón, who was also a kabbalist; as well as other synagogues, a mikve and a Jewish cemetery. That area in the north of Spain is full of the descendants of Jews, many of whom consider their heritage part of their multiculturalism as Spaniards; others, increasingly, come out of the crypto-Jewish closet. A conference in Zamora in July organized by Prof. Jesús Jambrina with the participation of Genie Milgrom Ruth Behar Charly Zarur Alfredo Alonso Estenoz and many more, has led to the local municipality agreeing to signpost nine sites of Jewish life. So much more to say on the subject. I am making a documentary about it, will keep you posted.
