I have just been contacted by a long standing bedroom tax activist. She has received notice that, on top of the £102 monthly charge, she will now be liable for a further £1000 annual council tax payment; “I do not know what to do. They want to break us. Our lives mean nothing to them” Now might seem like an opportune moment to remind our partners and supporters of Cardiff & South Wales Against the Bedroom Tax’s founding principal; Whilst we recognise that this policy has its genesis in Westminster, we expect landlords to stand by their tenants. We will therefore bitterly contest any bedroom tax eviction. We will fight any attempt through the justice system, in the press, and, where necessary, on the estates. Moreover, we expect landlords to pledge that they will not evict; to show solidarity and share the cost. Nor is this mere hyperbole. We have successfully intervened in sixteen cases where a possession order or eviction was sought. We have named, shamed and won on every occasion. Put simply; this is and always will be our redline!
