I have just been for a wonderful walk up the beautiful Uldale valley and I have walked for over three hours today as the sun is out and the sky is blue, so there was nothing better for a man to do, than walk out where people are very rare, and fill my lungs with the freshest air blowing from the Southwest today right from the Atlantic. At the far end of Uldale I followed the farm road up to the right and emerged above the hamlet of Wilton, and there I watched three buzzards soaring and swooping as they rode the wind currents which rose up the hillsides as they blew in off the sea, they were very close to me as they flew over my head and I could see the feather patterns on their undersides quite clearly. I carried on down the hill and through the Wilton and then climbed up the hill on the west side to exit the hamlet. Not far from here near to the Engineering works which used to be Becksters, I saw what I thought at first to be three young calves, but on looking again I realised that they were roe deer and they continued to graze for several minutes, before they picked up my scent and ran for the cover of a stand of trees. This was my last sighting of any notable wildlife today and I continued onwards past Florence mine and back into Egremont, tired but much refreshed.
