I have just heard that the great Hughie McLeod OBE has died in Hawick. He had 40 caps for Scotland between 54 and 62 and played for the barbarians at least 4 times as well as The Lions. As a callant at school we were in awe of him and his peers such as George Stevenson,Jack Hegarty,Adam Robson and Oliver Grant and with his fellow Scottish caps David Rollo and the Melrose twins Chisholm and Hastie. Hughie was a Hawick man, a Teri along with his life long pal Bill McLaren and the grey auld toon will always be his spiritual home as well as his physical home for the last 80 plus years. Commiserations to his family and close friends.
