I have known, based on stories I have heard and read, that Japan is a nation that has successfully preserved nature and many of its old ways amidst modernity. But I never expected that my first night here would be in a hotel seated on a slight rise surrounded by ricefields, some of these already harvested thats why they are now golden yellow, though many are still bright green in their full bloom, which are, in turn, bracketed by the contrasting dark green of the forested hills, in a town one hour away from Osaka and which lies along the path of the years strongest typhoon which is expected to come to this place tonight.
