I have known pain. I know pain. Most times, I offer it room and square meals. It pays no rent. Why pay for what it owns? It tracks my steps and orders my days. Gives commands and mocks my plans. It calls me Melancholy. Yet, I welcome it. Why? The aches and pangs of passion, the poverty and scorn of others, the frustration and anger at injustices.. These all cause flowing and captivating verses :-) This is because I feel pain in my heart, my nerves, in my blood, and as a result, I am able to infuse the same emotions, via my work, into the hearts of others. Painful experiences have inspired great works.. Works that posterity continue to enjoy and benefit from today. Indeed, the poet who knows no pain and who has never tasted bitter disappointment will invariably produce heaps upon heaps of cheap words :-) This is so because his words pour forth from his tongue and not from his feelings or emotions, and though he may comprehend what he has written, his heart and body have not lived the experience :-) In pain, I find bliss. I find contentment :-) Don M.
