I have learned that the key to dealing with manipulative people is acceptance...Accept that they will say things about you to make you look bad to others. Accept that they are willing to bend the truth, and sometimes lie to reach this goal. Accept that you will be blamed for things you did not do, if it makes them look better. Accept that they will very much try to play the victim. Accept that you can not change them, they are who they are. But most of all, accept that you do not have to participate in their theatrics. You can set boundaries. Arguing and yelling only gives them fuel for their fire. if you must interact with them, respectfully ask very short, direct questions and requesting a short direct answer. If they start to try to lead you into something else, or answer in a tone that is meant to anger you, remain respectful and remind them of the question. Accept that you have NO control over their actions. But you have COMPLETE control over yours and how you respond.
