I have made this post to answer your question on whether we are once saved always saved. I personally like to call it Once sealed always sealed because God the Father seals us with the Holy Spirit and there is nothing....NOTHING....not you and I, not principalities or powers great enough to unseal what God has sealed. Gods word says... John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” How does a person become born-again...this has been the question since Jesus spoke these words to Nicodemus and it is answered in a few different spots in the word. Jesus said to Nicodemus in the same passage at verse 6... That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Well we know we are already born in the flesh but how do we become born of the Spirit. First we have to realize we are completely unable to live up to the perfection of Gods law, it was put here for that very purpose, to show that we need a Savior.... Galatians 3:24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. The law shows that we are all law-breakers----sinners. And the wages we earn from sinning is death BUT God gave us the gift of His Son that made it possible for us to obtain eternal life. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Jesus died to pay the wages of our sins and rose in victory over death therefore making it possible for us to forgiven..... 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. Well, this brings us back to how do we get this gift? We realize we are unable to do those things in the law and we know Jesus died to pay the price...so what now? Well it really is very simple, we are told in scripture we need to repent ---- this is the action - To turn away from sin and we must confess that Jesus is Lord and God raised Him from the dead....here is what scripture says.... Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord Acts 16:30-31 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” This is done this way..... Romans 10:8-10 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. When you pray to God, repenting of your sins, confessing that Jesus is Lord and telling God you believe He rose Jesus from the dead ---completely agreeing with Him ---- you are saved. At that precise moment you become a completely new creation all together --- you are born of the Spirit! God places the Holy Spirit inside us as His guarantee til the day of redemption ---- whether it is when we die or the rapture happens. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Ephesians 1:13-14 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. This is a guarantee by God that the following is true..... John 10:28-29 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. Notice in the above verses it says NO ONE ...that includes you and me - nothing we do, think, or say can separate us from their (Jesus & the Fathers) hands. This also includes others, demons, angels, and any other forces you can think of.....once we are sealed by God nothing can separate us from His love..... Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Notice that the love of God is IN Christ Jesus......when we are saved we are placed IN Christ Jesus..... Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created IN Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Galatians 3:27 - For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. We are now children of God and heirs with Christ..... Romans 8:16-17 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Throughout our Christian walk we will continue to fight the fleshly desires from our sinful nature but this does not mean we are not saved....please read chapter 7 of Romans....even Paul fought this fight. But we have a powerful God who is able to keep us saved .... Jude 1:24-25 Now to Him who is ABLE to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless, Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen. We are sanctified and will continue to be sanctified, which means simply set apart, and it is the process that God does the following.... Romans 8:28-29.And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, in order that He might be the firstborn among many brothers. 2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, ARE BEING transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. And this will continue until the day of redemption....whether that is when we die here or get raptured from here.... Philippians 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. NOTICE in the Ephesians verse that we CAN grieve the Holy Spirit by our sin....because we should always strive for the prize - those crowns we may receive at the judgment seat of Christ - BUT it also says we were SEALED for the day of redemption... redemption - 2 meanings - the first has been done and is continually being refined as we are changed into His image... 1. the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil. AND THEN when we die or Jesus comes to get His Bride, the Church, at the rapture He comes to get what He paid for already on the cross.... 2. the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt. SO BE YE CONFIDENT!!!! Then what do you do with the following verses? 2 Peter 2:20-22 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.” This one is fairly simple in that we have to be very careful to look at the words.....in verse 20 it gives the whole explanation ...... knowledge = Greek is epignōsis and it means precise and correct knowledge knowledge = facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. This is talking about a person that has head knowledge that has never actually accepted the Lord...it says they KNOW of the Lord and means they go to church and they completely believe it is correct but they never make a commitment to Christ. Verse 21 says they KNOW the way of righteousness --- head knowledge --- and even with this being delivered to the person they turn away. And in verse 22 it specifically quotes the proverb to describe them as 1. a dog and 2. a sow....both speak of unbelievers and never do you find a believer being described as such. Or these verses? James 5:19-20 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. err from the truth = someone who is sinning...but it does not mean this person has lost their salvation convert = epistrephō = to turn him back towards the Lord not that they have lost their salvation but that they need to be admonished and exhorted to stop doing or start doing differently. I. transitively .......A. to turn to .............i. to the worship of the true God .......B.to cause to return, to bring back .............i. to the love and obedience of God .............ii. to the love for the children .............iii. to love wisdom and righteousness It is better translated this way..... Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. The death spoken of here is thanatos in the Greek and it is I. the death of the body .......A. that separation (whether natural or violent) of the soul and the body by which the life on earth is ended This is talking about the same thing as it is in .... 1 John 5:16-17 If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death. There are sins that will lead to the death of a believer...one that is saved ...and that person will prolly have lots of things burn up at the judgment seat of Christ and they will be saved as though thru fire......BUT they will be saved nonetheless. Does Hebrews 10:26 mean that a believer can lose salvation? (Got Questions. org) “For if we are willfully sinning after receiving the full knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice concerning sins.” Hebrews 10:26-29 warns against the sin of apostasy. Apostasy is an intentional falling away or defection. Apostates are those who move toward Christ, right up to the edge of saving belief, who hear and understand the Gospel, and are on the verge of saving faith, but then reject what they have learned and turn away. These are people who are perhaps even aware of their sin and even make a profession of faith. But rather than going on to spiritual maturity, their interest in Christ begins to diminish, the things of the world have more attraction to them rather than less, and eventually they lose all desire for the things of God and they turn away. The Lord illustrated these types of people in the second and third soils of Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23. These are those who “receive with joy” the things of the Lord, but who are drawn away by the cares of the world or turned off by difficulties they encounter because of Christ. “Willful sinning” in this passage carries the idea of consciously and deliberately rejecting Christ. To know God’s way, to hear it preached, to study it, to count oneself among the faithful, and then to turn away is to become apostate. Sinning willfully carries with it the idea of sinning continually and deliberately. Such a person does not sin because of ignorance, nor is he carried away by momentary temptations he is too weak to resist. The willful sinner sins because of an established way of thinking and acting which he has no desire to give up. The true believer, on the other hand, is one who lapses into sin and loses temporary fellowship with God. But he will eventually come back to God in repentance because his heavenly Father will continually woo and convict him until he can’t stay away any longer. The true apostate will continue to sin, deliberately, willingly and with abandon. John tells us that “No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (1 John 3:9). Apostates have knowledge, but no application of that knowledge. They can be found in the presence of the light of Christ, mostly in the church, among God’s people. Judas Iscariot is the perfect example—he had knowledge but he lacked true faith. No other rejector of the truth had more or better exposure to the love and grace of God than Judas. He was part of Jesus’ inner circle of disciples, eating, sleeping, and traveling with Him for years. He saw the miracles and heard the words of God from Jesus’ very lips, from the best preacher the world has ever known, and yet he not only turned away but was instrumental in the plot to kill Jesus. Having turned his back on the truth, and with full knowledge choosing to willfully and continually sin, the apostate is then beyond salvation because he has rejected the one true sacrifice for sins: the Lord Jesus Christ. If Christ’s sacrifice is rejected, then all hope of salvation is gone. To turn away willfully from this sacrifice leaves no sacrifice; it leaves only sin, the penalty for which is eternal death. This passage is not speaking of a believer who falls away, but rather someone who may claim to be a believer, but truly is not. Anyone who apostatizes is proving he never had genuine faith to begin with (1 John 2:19).
