I have many friends from many walks of life on facebook. Some of them work with me. Some of them used to work with me. Some of them are stand up comedians. Some of them are my dad. Some of them are improvisers whom I met while taking classes at the UCB. It is fun sometimes when those groups of friends have a weird flare up where they think their whole world is changing/crumbling/crashing/becoming famous or whatever, because those posts will be peppered by, for instance, my dad posting a picture of his winnings in Las Vegas that weekend or someone I used to work with at a restaurant posting a picture of her babys first bite of pecan pie. I will say that anecdotally, what I have observed is that the people with whom I have met through the UCB classes (the community as it were) have the highest frequency of my world is changing/crumbling/crashing/Im famous or whatever posts out of any group out there (stand ups are next in line). I bet there are a lot of reasons for this - there are a bunch of calendar-baked-in benchmarks (like auditions and scheduled shows etc), there are a LOT of people doing improv and also improv itself encourages people to use honesty and their real lives as fodder for their material, so being self reflexive and thinking about stuff is always top of mind (or top hat of intelligence as my improv friends say I think!) But I will say, make sure to pepper in some posts about your gambling winnings because I wanna see those sweet money stacks too, you know?
