I have many reasons to rejoice with my parents today as they have been together for 49 years. When one looks around and observes the high rate of marriage break-ups (both young and old) you cannot only be thankful that they both took their vows to heart in the presence of God and started their matrimonial journey without any exit clause or strategy. As all married (or once married) persons will know, no marriage journey is ever a smooth plain-sailing trip and worse still there are no manuals that comes along with process - hence its not a one size fits all as we are all unique individuals. More often than not, sharing your life intimately with a sposue is something we have to learn on the job while navigating the treachorous mine-field of life generally (such as managing the in-laws [and out-laws in many cases], raising children, building a career etc) in which along the way, positive and negative influences are encountered through external factors of what the young couples see, hear or are told. Ultimately, it is a steep learning curve and takes the determination of the 2 matrimonial participants to agree to make it work regardless of the bumps that are encountered along the way. Mum and Dad - we are thankful that by His Grace you have both persevered, made selfless sacrifices and stayed together through thick and thin to make it work. I thank God for keeping you both together this far and in good health. Finally I pray your union will continue to be an inspiration younger couples. Wishing Mr. & Mrs Akinyosoye (Snr) a very Happy 49th wedding anniversary. God bless you both!
