I have mixed feelings about posting such good news (survivor guilt?)....but, we were allowed a special escort to our property by the sheriffs office, for a couple reasons....and so we have a detailed report from our neighborhood. Attached photos are taken from our property. The main damage is mostly back-burning firefighters did, apparently taking a stand right at OUR property line, and one of our neighbors (Jim and Ginger), from advancing fire coming up the canyon from our east. For the most part, we had very little damage to any meaningful trees, and our home and outbuildings are untouched. The area in general looks pretty peaceful and quiet, and there are a few fire people and bulldozers on standby in the neighborhood, but there is nothing happening that would cause me any worry about our house at this point....barring any really freaky weather. Now....as to the neighborhood...truly, TRULY....there is NO EVIDENCE that a fire was even around here, as you travel down Forebay to Deep Haven, and go down Deep Haven to Canyon Edge, and then to Randolph Canyon. There is only our property with back burning done, and a little spotting that happened only 20 feet or so onto one neighbor (ground fire only). From our home, looking across Randolph Canyon towards Sierra-Crystal View, the hillside and trees looks mostly green and untouched. Its only around the bend (not visible from our home) towards Bullion Bend, where you can see that there is some fire fight still going on there. We are feeling SO blessed, and SO gosh darn lucky to have dodged this one, and for our neighbors as well. We know for a fact that firefighters were sitting at our property and doing protective operations....I just wish I could have seen them, and thanked them personally!! We have some pics of neighbor properties, and have sent them to these folks as well. I pray that our good fortune, will be shared by those who are still in harms way, of this advancing beast. When we return, we will be more than happy to offer resources, and our home / property in any way to help any of our friends / neighbors.
