I have my own music and I sit back n reflect and remember Sept. 15, 2012 my first show back on the scene singing my originals. Like Tyler Perry said he spent all of his $$$ and the few people that came were his family. 15 people were at my show and mostly family. I had 2 opening acts. Pretty Kenny Johnson and DC Clark. I had 2 hosts Even Stevens and Greg Brown. There was a balcony that could fit 2 people my mom Josie Smith and Ponzetta Raine. I had 3 background singers Ella, Katrece, Samantha Jones. I also had a starter band. Got to start from somewhere. It was a small room...I figured all my karaoke folks would come thru but uhhh no that didnt happen. My family..My Auntie August Dennis;, my cuzn Lana Wash, Gloria, Nick, Gangsta Ken, Jj, Mikki LovesTay Raine, Crystal Raine, Ahna, Sammy Joes 2 Jamaica friends, and 1 person from karaoke Michael White came thru. I wasnt disappointed it was the people that didnt come that fueled my energy. I had just stepped off the stage of Stone Soul 2012 where they gave me 5 mins with a cd no band no $$$. The next month I had a listening party because of the interest that was sparked. This party was given at 3000 Broadway by Nicole Dawson and Michael White. It was packed. It was at that party where I kinda got to know Charles Boomer and still wasnt aware how talented he was. Saw him fooling around with keys and asked him to get down with me on a tribute. And the rest is history. Met Sparkle and it was on. I guess my point is not the people that didnt show up its the journey. From the elimination of people, I have met people that have made a difference in my life and made me better. I tell my band we go hard even if there are 2 people in the audience. We give our best we dont want to be anything less. I love them. But my first show back on the scene after I took a break from the stageplays...Sept 15...was my new beginning. I respect every twist n turn of the journey. I always think of that day Sept 15, 2012, I could have given up but I realize I am living my dream. Its a long walk. God is ever present.
