I have neglected this site for awhile and try to update a little more frequently. I believe that every day has a potential story to be told or an adventure, I am fortunate to have had many over the years and usually keep them to myself. I would like to dedicate today to mothers. The mother that comes to mind is Mother Nature. Mother nature can be a beauty or a beast. I woke up today at 5 a.m. and took a look outside and realized that the landscape had changed overnight. I opened the door to 2 and 3 snowdrifts. The snow that I had shoveled off the sidewalk and driveway had been blown back in to make it impossible to go to work without cleaning it again. Mother nature provided me with a beautiful brisk north wind to cool me down in case I overheated [-35 windchill]. My dog Dakota was watching from the safety of his warm perch at the front window, waiting for the truck to warm up to the desired temperature. Off to work where Mother Nature challenged my driving skills as we plowed through the drifts. On the way there my motor skills were put to the test as I hooked up a tow rope to pull out a motorist that was stuck in a drift. At work, more shoveling to get in to the shops and cut a trail for the bunnies to there favorite pasture. Dakota saw the bunnies and because he only has 6 inches of clearance he cannot get to them directly so he follows the tire tracks back and forth to get there which usually takes more then a few minutes. The bunnies have seen this spectacle before. It was a busy day with many customers requiring deicing sand for the slippery roads, some had been up for the last 24 hours and were far from finished. Mother Nature creates so much employment at times like this and we should be thankful. The sun came out and shone brightly across the 900 acres of whiteness, clear blue skies and crisp white snow as far as you could see, broken only by the ribbon of 200 antelope as they ran trough the field only a few hundred yards from me. These are a few reasons why I love my job so much and although retirement is not that far away I will need a good reason to leave this place. As I returned home Mother Nature had filled in the driveway again. This time I was determined to get the job done and it was done in short order. In case anyone is feeling bad for me, I used the snow blower this time. Tonight will be a nice quiet night by the fire with a glass of wine and I am sure I will sleep like a baby. Mother Nature provided so much including beautiful scenery, humor, peace and a good work out, while getting paid. Today she was a beauty just like usual. I am sure there will be more stories to come.
