I have never liked the word neoliberalism because a lot of people - TopicsExpress

I have never liked the word neoliberalism because a lot of people who use it to describe the events of of the last thirty years in Western democracies tend towards a type of conspiratorial thinking, where the right-wing has a clear and deliberate plan to systematically destroy us. To me, it often signals a form of sloppy reasoning along the lines of: we are losing, everywhere, all the time, so we must be the victims of some diabolical scheme hatched by someone! and then we blame the whole thing on whatever leader is around at the time (It was all Thatcher/Reagan/Harper/Bushs fault). What neoliberalism actually describes is precisely the opposite phenomenon: as the globalization of economies occurred, a homogeneous political dysfunction in democratic countries everywhere followed. Theres nobody running this shit show, friends. Attend to the material conditions that produce the current political scene.
