I have never said this to anyone before, but every year on this date I lament the fact that I was not in Manhattan, the city of my birth and the first 23 years of my life, the day the towers fell. My father was there, in his office, just three blocks from World Trade as the horrific events unfolded, and I should have been there too; to grieve the loss of friends, the loss of the skyline I grew up knowing, and to somehow help in the effort to heal. I may have lived in Los Angeles for 21 years now, but I will always bleed New York.
