I have no apology. NO! I repeat , No white man come and teach me my own Language. Iwapele does not mean i have come to great the earth as Awo fatunbi postulated. The person that thought him that interpretation either lack good knowledge of Yoruba or English. The concept of iwapele is synonymous with the concept of Omoluabi. It simply means being perfect gentle man with good character. If you claimed it means what Awo Fatunbi said, remember that almost all yoruba proverb have their root ifa. Yorubas also said, idobale n se iwa. Meaning postrating to the ground(earth) is not synonymous with good character. The stated proverb negate the assumption on iwapele. We also said owe leshin oro, ti oro ba sonu, owo la fi nwa. Meaning: proverb is the horse of words, and it the case we lost the meaning of a word, we retrieve it through proverb. So, i use that proverb to assert my point on iwapele.
