I have no idea why this series is called The Big Think. It seems - TopicsExpress

I have no idea why this series is called The Big Think. It seems more a collection of people stating their thought whether they are actually thoughtful or just babbling their own biases and pat conclusions. Here we see Stephen Fry, whom I admire as an actor and a lover of music and art, speak about Mormons, my beliefs, in a way he seems self assured is witty, accurate, and self satisfied. He is babbling nonsense. Watch it here: https://youtube/watch?v=GzfCtGFgRSk Why is it nonsense? Well, here is at, I assume, Temple Square. He did not attend a meeting. He was in a tour at a visitors center, it would seem. He speaks of a person a she in a grey shift. I dont know the age of the person, but that is not really relevant here. At some point during the tour the woman speaks about the Latter-day Saint belief in Eternal Families. He finds this horrifying and repugnant. So, he makes some wisecrack. In his telling, he is then asked to leave. Being a Mormon, I am quite sure the story did not happen as simply as he is recounting it here. If he was indeed asked to leave (rather than to let others hear the tour and he left by his own choosing) he would have had to have been rude for an extended period and quite disruptive. But lets give Mr. Fry the benefit of the doubt. Lets say the sister had a bad day and sent him packing after his one half-witticism. What then of his conclusion that being condemned to families would be horrifying. In no aspect of Mormonism would you be forced to be with a family or persons you did not like or could not stand or a drunk aunt. Nor does his conclusion of Mormonism targeting and winning women of a certain age hold a bit of water. He should actually attend any Mormon Congregation and he would find (except in student wards or some wards for older people in retirement communities), a wide range of ages from babies to older members. Mormons are known to be family oriented and this is why. We want to be together with our families. But we also know we have to have families that we want to be a part of. To love and feel loved in. Which is why we work so hard at building and forming and keeping families. Do we always succeed? of course not. we are not exempt from the human condition. But we try. We believe in the Atonement of Christ that has living power to help us, heal us, compensate for our weaknesses and guide us to the correct path in the Plan of Happiness. So, as much as I admire your talent and learning, Mr. Fry. Here you are quite uninformed, witless, and quite a small think. But thanks for sharing your true thoughts and sentiments openly and honestly. It helps. Even when they are wrong.
