I have no problem with young folks playing sports to get to college. And if they get drafted to the pros, yay! But lets not having them (primarily boys) thinking that college isnt about education. If you get a chance to get a college education, then be sure you do your best and get a degree (if you can). A colleague was sharing a story of how he had a student who was drafted for the NFL and only had to SHOW UP and take the final (not even pass), so he could complete his requirement and get a degree. He failed to do so. Knowing the stats on pro-ball longevity and finances, then walking away from a degree, especially SO close, is not a good move. I salute athletes who get drafted early but continue school and get a degree, even if it takes 5-10+ years to do so. Those are the ones you hear about making business deals to keep their families fed well-after the contracts end.
