I have not done a thyroid cancer update since my last appointment - TopicsExpress

I have not done a thyroid cancer update since my last appointment with the oncologist a few weeks ago. He confirmed what the endocrinologist said. The whole body thyroid scan did not show any large cancer tumors. Yay! However, it was abnormal and the big thyroid remnant left during surgery is still there. Also, my most recent blood work shows a high Tg level (tumor marker) means I cannot be considered cancer free. The oncologist even said, "Some people are resistant to the radioactive iodine." I hope he did not say that because he suspects I am one of them. We will not know for sure until my next scan and blood work. I asked what that meant for my treatment options and he said it narrowed them down to external beam radiation and surgery. I have been on 100 mcg of Synthroid for a little over 3 weeks and, honestly, I have not noticed a difference in how I feel. I will have blood work done on the 15th and am pretty sure I need a med adjustment. I am still dealing with neck pain and hypothyroidism symptoms. Some days are better than others but I just keep pushing through. I was disappointed and sad after that last appointment because I really had hoped that I could announce being cancer free. It was a huge letdown and it took some time to wrap my head around that news. But, now I have accepted it and life goes on. Thank you to all my friends and family that are continuing to keep me in their thoughts and prayers. The past 3 weeks have been a nice break from the 1-3 medical appointments per week I have had since March. Strong is the new beautiful.
