I have not heard anyone else say this, so Ill say it here so that I might be able to say, I told you so, come January. While I believe Sen. McDaniels charges are a matter of sour grapes, I believe (cant say for fact he is), he is establishing a case to introduce a bill come January in the legislature requiring Mississippians to register to vote by party...meaning, of course, Republicans can ONLY vote in Republican primary and Democrats the same. If you register Independent you will not vote at all in a primary and must wait til the General Election. Now, this raises a number of questions. 1) If you are a true T.E.A. Party member, do you register in that party or the Republican Party? 2) If you live in the Delta where virtually everyone runs as a Democrat, what do you do? If you register as a Republican, you could certainly vote in the Republican gubernatorial primary, but you will not vote in any local races nor will you be able to vote in any city elections since anyone electable would run in the Democratic Primary. 3) If you live in the Delta, register as a Republican, and choose to seek a mayoral post by running in a Democratic primary (as many current Republicans now do)---will you be able to do that? Doubtful 4) The same applies to Democrats in Desoto, Madison, and Coast counties where Democrats have a snowballs chance in hell of winning a local election. If you think people are POed now with McDaniel, lets see what happens when (and albeit--if) he introduces such a bill and the T.E.A. Party backs it by threatening Republicans who dont support it.
