I have not slept a wink since 12:30. Not one. Exhausted but way too much adrenaline coursing through the body. Anxiety. Thoughts. Will this be the big morning? Is everything in place? I think Melody and I were still messaging at 3am., exchanging thoughts and ideas about Coco and another situation we are working on. I want to thank everyone who offered to come help with Coco. It is so very kind and I love how people want to rally to help her. I feel bad we could not include everyone that offered but we have to tread carefully. Even minor changes in the routines of these dogs can lead to major setbacks. We have to be careful we do not spook her out of the area. She is a runner. Often they get tunnel vision and she crosses streets where people dont even slow down so we have to be careful to try and not let her be on to us. We believe we have a solid plan in place, however, in the world of rescue, even the best laid out plans can fail. Its often an off the cuff thing, seizing an opportunity that presents itself. Or, in the case of Zsa and Izzy, both who could write books on 1001 ways to evade capture, it is extremely difficult and takes a lengthy period of time with these untouchables (both Zsa and Izzy are doing wonderfully well, btw). Someone managed to locate and borrow a trap so that will be the first thing we will hope works. It will be the safest for Coco. Then there is trapping her in the house she came out of yesterday morning, a previously unknown location which seems pretty secure. Or the garage if she is in it, or the other house. Trapping is risky and can be dangerous, but there will simply be no easy way of getting her unless we just let the trap do the work, no matter how long it takes. It is brutally cold out there. I just took Faith out and that wind is wicked. Things will only get worse. If the trap doesnt work, or trapping her in one of her known locations doesnt, but we see her on foot, then we will just trail her to see where she ends up and if well have an opportunity. Someone suggested a couple of big, fast men to just run and throw a blanket over her and grab her. Im game for that, but just too risky. Shes bound to get tired at some point and want to hole up somewhere. It reminds me of an episode of Pitbulls and Parolees where a dog with a similar looking leg injury needed help and Tia and her helpers just followed, followed, followed until the dog couldnt go anymore and sought refuge on a porch. They were able to rescue her. She had been running scared, but no way were they leaving her out there if they could help it. Well see how it all unfolds. If not today, we will stay on it, of course. This girl has been on her own out there for far too long in an obviously unkind world. She was clearly someones pet at one point....she still wears a collar but we were told she was abandoned (cant remember if her family left her behind or she was physically dumped). Our hope is that once caught, as we have seen several times, she will turn easily and revert back to a time she was a pet. Sometimes once that leash is on and they know the people they are with are ok, they are ok. What may complicate this is her injury as dogs in pain are sometimes more likely to lash out....and who can blame them?!?! Ive done that :) So many of the street dogs end up being the sweetest most gentle dogs there are. We will, of course, be able to make a better assessment once we have her. Oh, ya, I guess she needs a place to go. A temporary, quiet place where she will be able to get some much needed rest until everything else is figured out. If you can provide that place, please private message me......
