I have not taken any recent photos so here is Tobys happy face after getting his hair cut last week! Today we had our first appointment with the paediatric neurologist. Unfortunately but not unexpectedly, Tobys CP will be re diagnosed. She said he has a mixed type of CP typical in children who suffer birth traumas. His new diagnosis will be along the line of dyskinetic spastic cerebral palsy. The spastic part being the lesser or milder form of his condition because although his muscles are tight he still has full range of motion and can straighten his limbs. The dyskinetic is the more complex part and very hard to explain. It basically means the signals from his brain to his spine controlling the muscles get mixed up so as he makes a voluntary movement he also has an involuntary movement at the same time. It is moderate so not severe and unless you understood the condition you may not even notice. For example when Toby picks up a toy his hands appear clumsy and shakey, and when he stands his right foot curls in. Also when his emotions are heightened his limbs stiffen and straighten out in front of him. We should get a better picture in the next year or so because his symptoms may present more as he gets older. Days like today make me feel angry and sad but I know there will be no stopping my baby :-)
