I have often said that I support taking ones own life when the quality of that life is such that there is no quality. I have seen many people suffer through long debilitating illnesses, with absolutely no possibility of improvement, only to be kept alive through machines. I support a willful decision for a swift and merciful passing, with little pain and suffering. This child, who admittedly was little more than a husk of a human being, was starved and dehydrated for FOURTEEN DAYS. We as a race, the human race, endeavour to erase hunger and thirst from the most poverty stricken areas around the world, often using armed forces to bring relief to those afflicted- WE PUT ABLE BODIED MEN AND WOMEN IN HARMS WAY TO RELIEVE THE SUFFERING OF THE HUNGRY. For a jurist, supposedly an educated man, to enable a woman, who in no way should ever be called a mother, to inflict FOURTEEN DAYS of additional agony on a child leads me to wonder where we go as a race. We don’t treat dogs this way. We don’t execute murderers in such a cruel manner. If a serial killer on death row was executed by forcing them to undergo starvation and dehydration, there would be widespread outrage. But because this girl, a child, is severely disabled, it’s considered acceptable. Putting a bullet in her head would have been kinder, because it at least would have been immediate. But then we can’t tap dance around the fact that what this mother did is murder. Cruel and unusual punishment. May God have mercy on our souls
