I have plenty of religious friends on here, and I hope none of them are extremist bigots. I feel the need to express this. I call myself an atheist because I believe in logic, reason, and observable facts; not blind faith in a Bronze Age religion written by primitive madmen. I respect ones right to believe what they want, but just as Christians are outspoken about their ancient BS, its time for secularists to speak out and stop being afraid. We (atheists) are so demonized in America, its ridiculous. Polls have shown that most Americans (post-9/11) would rather vote for a Muslim than an atheist. Billboards are erected that say things like un-Christian is un-American. If a presidential candidate were to come out as atheist, he would lose the overwhelming majority of his support because he doesnt worship JEEZUS. People actually think that atheists cant be good people because morality comes from god. Or that were only atheists as an excuse to sin. If anything, atheists are held to a higher moral code than the religious. Look at all the sin committed in the name of a higher power. But its okay! Just say sorry to Jeezus and youll still get that mansion in the clouds. I dont need the threat of eternal torture in Hell, or the promise of eternal paradise in Heaven, to be a nice guy. I love and respect my religious friends, but YOU control this country and YOUR fellow believers are oppressing my people and our beliefs. If you dont want religion to be seen in the light that I and most secularists see it in, then stop letting idiots, bigots, extremists, etc., be the face of your religion. Sincerely, me.
