I have publicly announced that as of December 31st 2014 I will no longer be serving as a member of the Benevolent Foundation Saba. The board and all stakeholders has been officially informed on Friday of last week. After 6 years it is time to move on. And let it be known my decision has absolutely nothing to do with the report that has been put in place by the Inspector of health. But I have to say this that with all the changes in health care on Saba as a member of the Benevolent foundation Saba I cannot recall once that the board was invited by government or anyone else for any discussions regarding health care. As a member of the board we have all done our part to keep the senior citizen home in operation without any local government involvement. I can safely state that I personally has absolutely nothing to be shame about for serving as a board member during the past 6 years. Ever since the new constitutional changes many changes also for the Home came into play and as a board we have done our part. Every year we were audited by a Auditor and have passed the test financially with flying grades. During the past 6 years I have seen many positive changes taken place at the Home. There is still lots of work to be done but with good assistance coming from qualified experts all will be well. During the past 6 years the employees were one of my greatest concerns in making sure that they were well taken care of. At times I felt as if I was a labor representatives but I am extremely happy that together with the rest of the board we were able to make sure that our employees were well taken care of financially. We sat the pace where it concerns regulating the salaries of the workers. I do not like or want to credit myself for anything but I will say this much that when a crazy European Dutch man came here some years ago and was threatening the workers in health care that they had three years to get upgraded I was the one that contacted the union (Windward Island Health Care Union & Associates) for the workers and worked hand in hand to have all employees on Saba unionized. Today all workers in health care on Saba are in good standing. I will say the struggle is not over yet but after December 31st 2014 I will have more time to devote to the rights of workers in general. let me make it abundantly clear I am in full support f the merger between the Home and the Hospital come January 1st 2016.
