I have put my name for nomination for Glasgow Central and here is my brief introduction Muhammad Shoaib BA, LL.B, Dip LP. My name is Muhammad Shoaib and I am a specialist in Immigration and Human Rights law. I have been residing in Pollokshields for last 29 years. I have been actively involved in the politics of Govan and Glasgow central constituency. I have been given the honour to represent the people of Pollokshields for many years as a Councillor, as a community activist and have actively partaken in campaigning in all elections since 1985. I joined the SNP in 2007 and have worked for the Party from a membership secretary to convener of the branch and have attended party conferences regularly. I am also an organiser of Scots Asians for Independence since 2007. I have organised many public meetings of ethnic minorities for campaigning for the party. I organised one of the largest meeting of the Ethnic Minorities on the 10th of September 2014 in support of the Yes campaign, where 1100 people attended the meeting. Alex Salmond the former party leader of SNP described the meeting as a fantastic effort. I am a great believer of the right to self-determination for all nations. For that purpose I have organised the “first International Conference for Right to self-determination and the United Nations” at Geneva where 120 countries were represented by the NGOS. It is important that we choose a candidate who can win the Glasgow Central election for the SNP. I have been involved within the Glasgow Central (old Govan) constituency for the last 29 years. Being a Councillor I brought resources into Pollokshields by revamping and creating a children’s play area in Maxwell Square Parks as well as traffic calming measures. I was a member (later on becoming chair) of steering group that managed to get funding from Glasgow City Council for Pollokshields Community Center. I also saved the Nan McKay Hall which the Glasgow City Council decided to close down. I am a fighter and a believer of people rights and try to facilitate them to the best of my abilities. When I stood as an independent candidate in 2007; I was described by Nicola Sturgeon, “Muhammad Shoaib has a good record in Glasgow City Chamber”.
