I have read thru the posts of this group for the last 2 months. I tend not to discuss who I am going to vote for however I do believe there needs to be change. My family and I moved to Wasaga in 2003. I lived in BC for over 7 years in Vancouver, Surrey and Delta. One of the most beautiful places to visit was White Rock, BC. Whenever anyone talks to me about the Beach 1 I always reference White Rock. At the time I lived there, the main demographic was seniors but there was still a mix of families and young people. White Rock has done a very good job of having a mixture of restaurants, shops etc on the main strip with a beautiful pier (that may not work here) When we decided to move from Surrey to Wasaga, we looked at Barrie first and then Wasaga. Why? well houses were cheaper and Wasaga felt more like BC than Barrie. Barrie is more Toronto Urban Jungle where as Wasaga was more laid back etc. When we first moved here there was no stonebridge, it was a field of trees, there was no superstore or canadian tire, it was a field of trees. So Wasaga has really grown since we moved but BEACH 1 has severely died off. I dont think we need 5 bars on beach 1. I have no interest in going to one of the bars with my family to have dinner just to look over the water and sunset. I would love to have a nice restaurant to have dinner with my family on the water. I would love shops that sold more than just pot pipes, candy, and string bikinis. I know a lot may disagree with me but I am only posting what I would like to see. Another thing I would love to see, we have all this beautiful sand. Anyone heard of the Harrison Hot Springs Sand Castle competition. It is no longer held there but it was very popular for years and the sand castles were amazing. greatervancouverparks/HARRISONSandCastles01.html I think the town council needs to really get serious about Beach 1 and do something. I love the wave walls ( I know I am in the minority) but it is not enough. But something needs to be done and soon. There is so much potential and no one is seeing it. My gut says the town needs to buy that property back however if it were even feasible our taxes would be increased but the landlord of these properties dont care, that is quite obvious. Do you really want property owners who dont care about the town? For those who dont understand why they have no problem letting them sit empty, they can write off on their company taxes as a loss which brings their tax bracket down. I really hope the candidate read this and consider it.
