I have realized this for a very long time, but thought I would go ahead and mention it today. Both my boys have ADD and the I dont like school syndrome. I think if they didnt have the syndrome, the ADD would not be so bad. Vinny and Paulie are smart, good with Math and can figure things out given the time to do so. They both are also creative. They can think of something in their heads and make it or draw it and have great imaginations. Very proud of both. With Paulie I have to make homework and study fun. We joke, I make funny comments, we laugh, but he remembers and it works. Yes, in our time it was do your homework or no TV, no dinner, no playing, grounded, or like some, got their butt whipped! But I know for my kids, anger and punishment didnt work. It made them miserable. Making it fun, thats how it works in my house. Plus, a little pep talk about how smart they are and how proud you are of how well they try works too. Sometimes when Paulie doesnt do the work given, I will tell him that I am disappointed that he didnt do it. He ls letting the misery of school prevent him from doing what I and the teachers know he can. Here is my analogy...I hate cleaning bathrooms, so, I clean them first without even thinking about how much I hate it. I get it out of the way and I dont have to think about it again till it needs to be cleaned again. Same with homework. You dont like it, but it has to be done, so just do it, and get it out of the way and get it done. Thats it. Just wanted to share.
