I have recently been referred to on facebook as a scratch artist. I want to make some things very clear as a lot of my customers, or likers of my page are new. Scratch artists work out of their houses, or the houses of the people they are tattooing. They are not affiliated with any legal Tattoo studio. They arent bound by any ethical or legal restraints, nor have to answer to anyone for the work they produce. They dont have to prove they are using clean, approved equipment, and arent necessarily aware of the very real harm that can come by tattooing someone on a kitchen table. My Tattoo studio is attached to my home. Before it was a tattoo studio, it didnt exist. When my wife and I decided to build it and open a tattoo shop, we took out a loan, and had a contractor build the building attached to our house. The decision to add it onto our house was made because our kids were still young, and since she works full time elsewhere, having myself working from home was a logical solution. I got to be at home while my kids grew up. My studio is 192 square feet. It is clean, and safe. I am subject to regular inspections by the BC Interior health authority. I pay taxes. I am registered with the Province of BC and the City of Merritt. I purchase my supplies and equipment from a legal, and reputable supplier who will not sell to anyone who is not a registered tattoo shop. I attend conventions and Im constantly learning to get better at my trade, as any tradesman should. I have the best customers in the world. Getting a tattoo is a big scary decision, and the fact that they trust me to do it for them warms my heart. I try to make every one of them as happy as I can, and I admit, I can at times be grumpy. But Im an artist, and that goes with the territory, lol.
