I have recently been sent an email regarding a suggestions box for next years Working Dog Alliance Group Conference. As we were extremely underrepresented at this years conference, I would really like a response from all our responsible breeders/handlers/trainers out there about what needs to be included for next year. If you would like a copy of this email so as you can fill out the suggestion box please private message me. May I also remind people that this group are hoping to dictate and measure through science the traits of what makes a good dog, (they believe that EBVs will help us breed better dogs)..........how and why and what type of dogs we should be breeding, in my opinion a very subjective and flawed concept. It may be that we need to improve our welfare and clean up our backyard, but to be dictated to about how we breed or why is neither fair nor right. In my opinion we need to educate all breeders, trainers and handlers of working dogs not just the basic principles of breeding and handling but to tighten our belt on the welfare of our animals so we are not having the finger pointed at us every time the welfare groups need a job for the month. We must not lose sight of the fact that our dogs and their work ethic are worth a lot of money to the Agricultural Industry!!!
