I have recently come to see a different, and possibly more necessary valuation for precise critical acumen. I have long abstained from engaging and executing a critique unless it was solicited. However over time my experiences lead me to a rather disheartening conclusion. The circumstance that I believe I observe, and as a result from which this phenomenon stems is my recent conjecture that criticism is not just valuable in moving ideas and objects forward, but of equal if not of more importance in keeping in abeyance the tendency to overly emotional reactions to circumstances. When criticism is looming it tends to have a policing effect on the emotional tendency to soothe the individual rather than looking for the best explanation, and when it is absent, the degree to which these emotional responses divert from valuable solutions seems to increase dramatically. As a result of the erosion over time of an environment open to critical analysis, I believe I am seeing what appears to be great advances in the depth of the effect of these overly emotional operations.
