I have researched, decided on and am now purchasing a desktop document scanner, the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500. This is the last move that we will make with boxes and boxes of paper files. Note: lesson learned re: digital documents -- make at least two back ups of every file (I have two hard drives and am using a digital cloud back up system). Depending on the scan quality, I might use the document scanner for mass scanning of old photos, pulling the favorites for better quality flatbed scanning. I literally have a trunk full of photos I dont want to lose. How much better to someday pass along a small thumb drive of pics to the boys vs. boxes of pics, negatives, slides, etc.
