I have resided in Abbotsford for the last 31 years. I came from India with a Bachelors of Science degree in hand and never quit learning while in canada. Along with taking care of my children, I have worked shoulder to shoulder within the family business as a farmer for the last 28 years. I am currently employed part time at the Tradex event centre as a occupational first aid and also work part time as a real estate agent. I believe in living a simple life and giving back to the community. Thus I have been volunteering wherever I felt I was needed for the last 31 years. I am a proud parent of two wonderful children. I have always believed in not only caring for my own children, but ensuring all students get the opportunities they deserve. I have been on parent advisory committees and constantly try to provide feedback from parents, to those who are currently a part of such committees. As a part of these committees I have always strongly believed in educating our children for a better and safe future. In order to focus on the problems of students and parents, I have decided to run for a school trustee office in the upcoming elections for the west side of Abbotsford. I hope to better interpret parents and students concerns to the school board. Concerns such as our childrens safety, bullying, health, attendance, food services, transportation, and most importantly the rising drug issues the whole Abbotsford community faces today. I would like to ensure each child is getting a equal opportunity for a safe and healthy education. My goal is to see implementation of programs in schools that start at a earlier age of a students life, so they learn early on to make better choices and accommodate them into their lifestyle. In order to do this however, I need the support of the Abbotsford community. We need to work together to create clear communication between parents, staff, pacs and the school board. I believe that there is a always a solution to every problem, no matter the severity of it. We want peace at our schools so that our childrens education is not disrupted by these toxic matters. We need more and improved resources provided to our teachers and students. Some schools are lacking activities, providing information about social media, and I believe funding should be well spent and equally spent to ensure each student is getting the same opportunities. Abbotsford is a diverse community and I am always trying to get a better understanding of every culture in order to communicate effectively with every parent. Being a mother I listen to the voices of mothers that are not heard. If the whole community gets together, anything is possible. If elected, I would like to see a peaceful, respectful and safe environment for students, teachers, and parents. Our children deserve the best. United we are, strong we are! It would be my honour to serve our community.
