I have seen a large number of ads lately for rescue horses being sold. Most of these ads start of with I rescued this horse but ..... For the sake of the horses please keep this in mind if you intend to try a rescue; 1. Just because it is free or cheap does not mean it will be forever free or cheap, this means money; 2. Most rescue horses need vetting, rehab, a feeding program to regain weight, farrier work, this requires money; 3. Some of these horses have already been passed from one barn to another, they may have behavioural issues that require training and time to over come, they need people who understand and can work with these issues. This means more than a month or two in your barn and training with a professional, this requires money. Before you want to make yourself feed good, or think you are doing a good thing, please keep the horse in mind. If you cannot either afford it financially or the long term commitment to rehab/retrain/rehome a happy useful horse, please leave it to those who know what they are doing.
