I have seen a lot of posts on Facebook the last day or two - TopicsExpress

I have seen a lot of posts on Facebook the last day or two concerning Russia, their economic crisis, the Congressional vote on Russias response to the Ukraine and Obamas handling of Cuba today; much of it pointing to the same thing, from both my conservative and liberal friends-- that we should take a hard line response to Russia. Have you gone mad? My family has been here, in part, since the Revolutionary War times; where we served. We have served in every war for Americas call since then, I even had family on both sides of the Civil War. I am the son of a WWII Veteran, who was a Navy medic attached to the Marines in the South Pacific. A family story is told of how he carried two men, one on each shoulder, up the rope ladder to the ship, with only a handgun on his side, amidst fire on one of the island battles. I am a former Army Special Ops soldier, and I have a son and a foster son in the Navy. I married a wife with the same familial military background; her family was here from the founding of the country, and has served with honor in every conflict our country has ever called them to, from Revolutionary War times to the present. Current studies have said multiple times that only 25% of American families have direct generational military service, where member after member answers their countrys call to service. We are proud that on both sides of our family we are part of that 25%. For the arm-chair military experts (many of whom are in Congress in both parties or in the Executive Branch) who make up the 75% of non-military generational families in the US, I suggest you stop calling for increasing tensions with other major military powers around the world. Because unless you are willing to sign up and grab a rifle yourselves, or send your sons or daughters to do so in your stead, youre just a coward in my opinion. It is easy to shed blood when it is not your family at stake. If Russia (and her allies, which include countries such as China) were to call for war against the US, my family would be the first to be on the front lines. We have over 20 members who are either currently on active duty or whom could easily be recalled. I would gladly go and serve America in whatever capacity I could, even as a training Sargent or Russian analyst, which is what I was in part trained to be. I know what the costs of such aggression would be with a foe such as Russia; I spent a good deal of my military career focused upon such a scenario. I also know that those I love would be called to the front, and some would die. Which is why I do not advocate war unless it is the last option; something so many politicians and civilian warmongers fail to do. I realize this post may cost me some Facebook friends, but I dont care. Pushing war for wars sake, without regard to the cost, is evil. Unless you are willing to send those you love to the front lines, fight for peace.
