I have seen over a half dozen friends needing to change their names according to Facebooks new parameters around having One Legit ID. It makes me so sad to see this. From teachers who havent wanted to be found by students, to social and personal support workers wanting to have a client-free space, to folk who use aliases for spiritual reasons, to trans folk, to drag and performance names, to people who need covert identities so they arent found by their bosses, never mind those who are hiding from dangerous situations: I am so very sorry to see your necessary, creative, creatively necessary, and real names (to me) disappear from this space. It has a feeling of the apocalypse... a bunch of people are disappearing one by one and only some are being replaced. I know that isnt happening in actuality, but for so many of you, this is the one place I get to see you - or your alter-ego super queen/king amazing selves.
