I have seen quite a few posts over many states in the last day or two so I just wanted to say this.... Most shelters are running thin on staff so if you call the front desk and hear that they dont have your animal, please go in person and check. This isnt saying anything bad about shelter staff as they truly dont have the people or time to check with each phone call. However I will say if you show up in person, most of the shelters are happy to escort you through the animals and hoping with you that one of them is yours. If you are one of those souls that know an animal will be better in your home safe and sound instead of a cage, I want you to know that you are doing a disservice to the owner of that animal. If you leave a message that you have such and such and animal, it gets lost at the PD between shifts as well as at the shelter with no real info. So pretty please, send the stray you found to the shelter so that folks who have lost them have a better chance of actually finding their animals instead of a front desk person going through a week or more of phone messages trying to see if any matches occur. Again, if you mention at turn in that you have a rescue for the animal or want to adopt yourself, 99% of the time that note goes up and they will follow up with you.
