I have seen the theory tossed around about wrestling not being presented as real anymore and simply admitting that its basically theater. I personally dont think that has a chance of working but I wasnt really sure why. Other people think it will work. The argument they make is that we all know television shows and movies are not real life but we enjoy them anyway. That is true so why is wrestling different? After giving it some thought I have this conclusion. Wrestling is not a movie or a sitcom in that sense. It is a reality show just like Duck Dynasty, American Idol or Dancing with the Stars. The fans were told for years that is was real and even though many saw through it, as many do with other reality shows, fans of it believed it. If Duck Dynasty or the producers of DWTS went public tomorrow and admitted that their shows were worked performances then the reality of it that had their fans interested would be gone and you would just have a cast of bad actors playing characters and without believing in it now you are just watching bad acting. That is what wrestling is now. Bad actors acting out bad writing and everyone knows it. Wrestling promotions cant afford to hire Robert Diniro, Robert Downey Jr and Tom Cruise to be in their next main event or hire Quinten Tarrentino to direct their show so you get what you get.
