I have seen this article floating around Facebook, and I am extremely disappointed with the way in which this situation is being handled. For many of us who attended Barrie North Collegiate, and have had the utmost pleasure and honour of being a part of Brian Adduonos lessons, we were all aware of these posters existing. None of us made complaint because we understood their purpose. This speaks of a lack of education, and of a generation easily offended. This also goes to show the lack of intelligence that is being displayed by the parties involved. It is also interesting to note two very important points 1) the student in question waited until September to say ANYTHING. Why? 2) Instead of speaking directly to the source, the mother went over everyones head and straight to the paper. The Principle hit the nail on the head when they said that this is used to explain how satire, tone, irony and hyperbole can be used effectively. Anyone that knows, or knew Mr. Adduono, knows that none of this was intended as serious suggestion. Its just as well they dont teach Jonathan Swifts A Modest Proposal in class. To vilify a man who has dedicated 30 years of his life to the betterment of the educational system, and of the higher-learning of young people, over something so petty, is outrageous and sickening. I, among many others who have seen this article, are appalled, and frankly this will not stand.
