I have seen variants of this constantly on Facebook and it is stupid. Stupid for numerous reasons but mostly because it shows how ignorant of politics and politicians people really are. The lawmakers in this country could choose to have salaries of $0.01 a year for serving as political representative and still be making more than minimum wage yearly. This is because all of our senators, congressmen, judges, and the President had jobs usually in law or were independently wealthy before going into politics. They invested there earnings and made plenty beforehand. Even after gaining office they receive contributions and make lucrative side deals for themselves and others that any salary they gain for serving in office is simply icing on the cake. Barring the basics of what I just covered if politicians were truly only able to make minimum wage and not gain any money from outside sources, We would never have anybody at all run for office. We would not be able to convince anybody that it is worth the time and headache to be a leader. The sheer stupid ignorant lunacy that would come from somebody willing to run the country on minimum wage would rival third world nations. I would not want to live in a country governed by the type of idiot who is willing to make nothing. If people spent half the time it takes to make stupid signs and posts about politicians making minimum wage and instead spent that time actually fighting to make change we would get somewhere. Social media has provided an opportunity to the nation and world to speak out. Use it for solid Upworthy messages and not idiotic statements that are so much white noise.
