I have sent this letter to both my state representative and senator, feel free to borrow and share: Representative Jim Boyd 717 Manatee Avenue West Suite 100 Bradenton, FL 34205-8654 Dear Representative Boyd; I am writing to you to ask your opinion. I have been watching what I believe is the demise of the US Republic. I see our federal government becoming an all-encompassing oligarchy. The government has been ignoring the rights of the people. The Constitution has no meaning to the majority of members of the three branches in Washington. The opinion of one imperfect individual who happens to be a judge, executive, or legislator can make devastating changes in the lives of the people without the people’s consent. The laws, rules, and dictates that are made by non-elected, nameless, faceless, bureaucrats are robbing us of the ability to make our own decisions on how we live our lives. This can only be described as tyranny. We need to use the power given to by our nation’s Founders. The Founders demonstrated their brilliant understanding of the history of political systems when they created our Constitution. The Founders knew that there was an inherent danger from a central government. Franklin described the two powerful desires that cause some people to strive to become professional politicians. He saw the desire for money and power as the fuel of the professional politician. Because the Founders had a unique understanding of the siren song of political power, they gave the people a means to remove this tyranny from our federal government through bottom up amendments to the Constitution that cannot be interrupted by Washington. The federal government was never intended to have the oppressive power that they daily exert on the states and thus the people. Our true political protection was intended to be within our local communities and thus our states. This can be the way our republic functions again if our states can come together and use the section of article 5 of the Constitution that our Founders left for us to overcome tyranny peacefully. The new book, The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic written by Mark Levin was released August 14. Mr. Levin describes the book as a starting point for a discussion on amending the Constitution. I believe the people and the states can retake the rightful control of our lives away from our tyrannical federal government by using Mr. Levin’s book as a blueprint. Term limiting Congress will help solve the problem we are having with our federal elected officials focusing more on their personal power and money than the needs of the states and people who elected them. Repealing the 17th amendment will give states the power they need to direct the attention of each state’s Senator on the people and not their party. Since the first Supreme Court, the Constitution has been slowly eroded by the wishes of individual justices who base decisions on their personal points of view rather than the Constitution. Too many decisions have actually made new laws that are contrary to the rights and freedoms protected for the people by the Constitution. Mr. Levin suggest we term limit Supreme Court justices and give power to the states to reverse unconstitutional decisions made by these fallible lawyers. Mr. Levin goes on to suggest amendments that restore our country to a balanced budget and removes the regressive taxes that create class envy. He suggests solutions for the out of control growth of a bureaucracy that is smothering us with debt and rules that we do not need or want. Levin offers a means to correct the 14th amendment to prohibit the federal government’s intrusion into state commerce for which there is no constitutional authority. Other amendments remove the federal governments ability to pass legislation in the middle of the night that forces rules on citizens they don’t want. The states resume the ability to use the power the Constitution denied the federal government to control the legislative process. The amendments deny the president power to assume control the legislative process without congressional oversight. Lastly, Mr. Levin proposes an amendment that secures the vote of the people and prevents noncitizens and unauthorized individuals from voting. He further protects the vote by eliminating electronic voting unless the states are convinced they have a process that cannot be tampered with. I very much need to know your position on protecting the power in the Constitution that was left for us by the Founders to keep our freedoms intact. I hope you can find the time to review and evaluate Mr. Levin’s approach to return our United States to control of the states and thus the citizens. With the recent passage of Obamacare and the pending immigration bill, our country teeters on the brink of destruction. I think it is time for change that returns us to a free country and hope you feel the same. Sincerely,
