I have sent this to Hon Clive Palmer and Hon Scott Morrison Minister for Immigration I write to you today to express my absolute disgust and outrage at the situation in Queensland where a 31 year old new mother, who is an asylum seeker of the Rohingya people of Myanmar, has been forcibly isolated from her newborn at the Brisbane Mater Hospital. I understand that the father and siblings are forbidden to visit with them. This is a most shocking situation and represents a new low is our Government’s treatment of people who seek asylum here in Australia. It is in fact diabolical. Both the Bringing them Home report and The Commission of Inquiry into the forced removal of newborns from their mothers identified clearly the long term harmful effects of such actions on both the mother and the child. I ask you to make as many representations to as many of those in positions of power and decision making to end this dreadful situation, allow the babe and mother to be together and to allow the family to be with their newest member.
