I have some concern for the state of our acceptance of weakly-justified enabling of rationalizations using time and intentional convictions that we are deprived of the use of it. Its not to say there are legitimate circumstances and times in our lives and work that efficiency of the use of available minutes, hours and days isnt an appropriate expectation of effectiveness. The concern is the too frequent inability to distinguish between when it is necessary and convincing ourselves it must be a 24/7 physical, emotional and behavioral state of our life. We cannot make adequate decisions or learn paths to them of that with which we spend no interest or time gathering. While our decision making is improved when using credible resources and people we trust to know not just more but more credibly about the issues and settings in which we are engaged for problem solving, discorey or goal planning. The ability to evaluate/analyze, critique the data and filter it through our own brains work is a critical factor in determining the outcomes of the entire process. This is definitively NOT a matter of high vs. low intelligence, but of better use of the resources and our informed state. Education and training IS necessary for that to happen, whether institutional or individually God graced experiential discovery. Knowing that affects our choices in the grocery store, work diligence, scientific discovery, spiritual discernment, eco-political policy making and social relationships. It aint what we read on bumper stickers, hear from radio political talk show hoo hahs or the guy at the gun range or opera during intermission. Think for yourself but use credible reources and character to distinguish between abdicating your responsibility or excuse making. Or as my VP of Construction Engineering at Kellogg used to tell new engineers, Dot tell yourself that you just dont have the time to do the job right the first time...but seemingly have the time to do it over....
