I have some new information to share with you regarding possible future Grant application for the Pay as your Throw Program, a copy of the original grant instructions, the other Pay as you throw Grants available and the actual grant application, complete with the imposed Regulation requirement as part of the grant! Oh and you will love this one. The Grant you can apply for next year/ Would you believe A Waste Reduction Enforcement Officer! I kid you not, the Town gets the grant and hires its own trash and recycling eforcement cop! He enforces things like the Regulaton the last grant put in place, so he can enforce resident compliance with single stream recycling and enforce private hauler regs, and actual develop an enforcement protocol, including process for fining if necessary, for violations. He can peek in your curbside trash and make sure you are not mixing any skippy peanut butter jars with your trash ! and maybe develop a per jar fine schedule. I wish I was making this stuff up, but it is true. after all this is Massachusetts. Statistic show that this Trash Cop (you can pay him up to $55,000 per year in a larger Town, complete with mileage expense, there is your $56,000 grant they were talking about last night. and if the Recycling Nazi does his job correctly, it has been shown that he or she can decrease solid waste tonnage by up to 15% within one year. If his efforts are really great, we may realize enough savings to pay for his Salary and mileage expense when the grant funding ends. We would be foolish not to go for this one wouldnt we?
