I have some questions to ask: How many of you guys in this group own a 500mm or 600mm lens and are just hobbyists with your photography? Meaning you do not sell your images but keep them for yourself or share with family & friends? The reason I ask this is because I am seeing this growth of digital photography among so many people and many people assume that anyone with a large lens over 300mm must be a professional. Also many birders carry digital cameras with them while they are in the field ( including me ) and many birders who are hobbyist own large lenses. So if you see a person with a large lens doesnt mean they are just photographers but also birders as well. Anyway I am curious to know how many in here are just hobbyist like myself when it comes to photography.
