I have some thoughts that may or may not have me shot. But as a paying member of this cruise, I think its vital that we open up on what was great and not so great about Cruise to the Edge. I hope that others will leave their opinions in a polite and creative way. Thanks. First, I want to say that I did not do this cruise on its maiden voyage so my frame of reference is limited to this one. In fact my frame of reference is limited also because I have never been on a cruise before this. But I know what I like (ha, that was for you, Rael Razor) so here are my thoughts. I loved all the same things that everyone loved; getting to hang with, chat with, eat with, watch onstage, and sometimes even perform with favourite performers. The shows were excellent, and, besides some of the clubs being a bit cramped, or the sound being muddy for some of the shows, it was a dream to see so many of my favourite acts. Steve Hackett, and Marillion on the same day.. surreal, actually. I thought the ship was beautiful with its sparkling staircases, and giant chandeliers; its extra large elevators that quickly got us to where we wanted to be. The many different pool and sunning areas, all the restaurants and bars, made getting a drink or something to eat, quite easy. I have heard through others that this years cruise was an immense improvement upon 2013. I hope that management is just as receptive to ideas for next year. My biggest thought was that there were far too many bands on the schedule, which made it necessary to take several time outs on the ship to figure out who was going to be sacrificed and who would be seen. If this were a one day festival, Id be royally pissed that I had to do this. But I know that a five day music festival is extremely difficult to schedule, and you cant please everyone all the time. At least we did have choices as when we could see the performances. I just think to have a few less bands would have made it easier on everybody all the way around. This doesnt really effect me too much, but one thing I had heard from various musicians was that the bar in the Yacht Club closed early, although they had to perform sometimes until after 1am, which meant not getting back to the headquarters until well after 2. I know that other bars were open because the After Hours Prog Jam went until after 2am, and this is a personal preference between those who were in Yacht Club and management. But if these bands are asked to play late, and they want to have a night cap after their show, then perhaps it wouldnt be too much to ask that the private bar remain open for the bands. I guess, for me, the problem with this cruise (and believe me, its a fun problem to have for the first day or two) was that it was a little TOO busy. There was so much happening, often simultaneously, that I seemed to be in a constant rush to be somewhere. This is nice when your a kid, and dont really care about things like stress, and high blood pressure. But it would have been nice not to worry about missing something. I know I could have chosen to skip out on something. I did miss the Roger Dean storytelling, and I was pissed. I also missed a few shows I really wanted to see, and I was equally disappointed. When you pay to see Willy Wonkas candy factory, you want it all, and you want it all NOW! And we all know what happened to those kids. In this case, less is definitely more. Your thoughts?
