I have something on my heart to share today and that is about the importance of MENTORS. I just received a touching message from one of my early mentors saying, “You have far exceeded my expectations. I still laugh to myself when I think of what you had to overcome to just be average and now you’re in the elite level.” Many personal development resources will encourage you to surround yourself only with people who are at a higher level – because in a sense, we become the average of the people we hang around most. There is truth to this of course. At the same time, I can think of a handful of people, I mean a select few that were NOT world champions, they were NOT people who had “nothing better to do,” and they certainly were NOT people who let me tag along in order to impress others, and they were NOT people who helped me to boost their own ego by any means… but they outstretched their heart and wings at times when looking back I so desperately needed one to crawl under - and forever changed the path of my life as a result. So with that, never under estimate the power to offer this to someone. I don’t know where I would be, had I not had special people show up at just the right time and ultimately shape my life for the better. Over time, you can even expect those relationships to change… everyone grows at a different rate. Some people who were once your mentors may even resent your success or go in a different direction. Regardless, be grateful for the good things that each relationship brought and most of all, don’t hold back when it comes to offering your own wing to someone who made need it to crawl under! These days, we all need to be protective of our time and very conscious about how we spend it. This is WHY its important to remember that our purpose on this Earth is to make it a better place – when an opportunity presents itself to make a positive impact in someone else’s life, grab it! It’s almost easy to forget what I had to overcome to arrive at this point in life, and I feel as though I’m just getting started. One thing is for sure, it would have been darn near impossible to be an “overcomer” without a select few very special people to guide me, and to them, I am forever grateful! So, lets celebrate MENTORS! Tell me about/tag mentors who have shaped YOUR life!
