I have something to share with you that I think is important (at least to me). Sorry it’s a little long, I tried to condense it :-) Several conversations I have had recently have been around professions and what people think they do when they join that profession. I think most people are surprised when they actually do the research what is really involved in each profession and from my experience what is required is often changed as our society is evolving. I know that in the 26 years I have been in cosmetology, it has changed quite a bit. The basics are still there but most people are no longer satisfied with someone knowing just the basics, they want someone who can do everything, when they want them to. It requires lots of additional training which comes at a high price usually. Because I value myself and my profession, I am willing to go the extra it takes to do something well. I try not to let an income investment hold me back because I know that if I am provided the opportunity to improve, I can in time give back to others. When I joined ASEA, I did it to give back to others. Some people think I am just selling something but if that was the situation I would have never gotten involved. I have never been a sales person and never intend to be. So many of my clients suffer (as we all do at some point in our lives), have suffered or know someone they love is suffering from some physical or financial stress. It pained me to hear the stories and not be able to do anything except offer prayer (which I still do) but at least now I can offer a solution. I am not selling them on something, I am letting them know about something they may not have heard of otherwise. If they choose to use the products, that’s their choice and I am OK with everyone making their own choices. What I would like to clarify is what I really do as a professional (I can only speak for myself). I care about people for living. I became a Cosmetologist because I enjoy people and had such a hard time finding someone to do my hair the way I wanted I felt like I could be an asset to the community. I took everyone that I possibly could that walked through the door, did my best work and hopefully left them with a feeling of self love and value. My motto has alway been to treat people as I would like to be treated and always show up ready. I do the same for my ASEA business. I share a message of hope and healing and feel called to lead a group of people to do the same. We are educators of a different distribution model of doing business (I am tired of the big corporations getting richer while the average person is getting poorer) as well as sharing the knowledge of a new technology. We are lovers, we are caregivers, and we are compassionate people wanting to better the world. Call it what you want, but I feel I have never worked a day in my life in my professions. If you’re still with me and reading this, thank you for sticking with me
