I have spent seven years serving the Metis of Labrador on council as council member, Vice President and for a short time interim president. I proudly done my best to help my people! I am a proud son of Labrador; been here all my life and no plans to leave. I have worked hard to maintain my culture, have worked with other native groups and always spoke up for the Big Land and its people. My kids know their roots and have been taught to be proud to be Metis; not better than others but in some ways different. Many of my friends have been native and non native alike. My wife, the love of my life is non native but loves and respects me as I do her. I have often wondered, why doesnt Labrador have a Native alliance? A board with representation from Inuit , Innu and Metis to represent all natives, stand up for one another on common goals and interests!! We should not and can not allow the divide and conquer mind set defeat us!! For generations we have drawn a line in the sand; we need to destroy that line and work as one people. Sure, there are issues that are unique to each group and thats fine but surely more can be done to work together??!! Opportunities are on our door step and passing us by ; and why?? There is a place here for all people native and non native alike!!
