I have spent the wee hours of my FANTASTIC THURDAY watching this video and others like it on racism. It was sent to me in a private message here on Facebook. The message is unfortunately clear, that racism (the distinguished response, treatment of a person based on their ethnicity/skin color) is unfortunately alive and well. How appropriately entitled the media segment title What Would You Do applies to this subject. Last night I was engaged in a discussion about race with a diverse group of people. Each experience was unique but real. With all of the experiences and clashing of races, our communities are changing. Geographically we separate ourselves (poverty vs middle class vs rich) no matter what culture which separates us in an "us vs them" mentality. How are you segregated in your thinking? Who do you view as the "other"? Do you go out of your way to avoid them or do you embrace them as your human brother/sister? Black, White, Rich, Poor, disabled, young, old, intelligent, mediocre, gifted, genius, industrious, married, single, metro, country, urban, suburban, blue collar, white collar, no collar.
